I wrote this song many years ago for a sorority talent contest that was held during Valentines’ Day. This is definitely an 80’s pop song, but I think it has potential for sync placement in movies or TV shows. Please let me know what you think as I am considering re-producing it to improve the sound quality.
King of Hearts
Words and Music by Carlos Tabora
Verse 1
Some people say to be the King of Hearts
You’ve got to have a way
You’ve got to play your part
You’ve got to know how to hold her
When she’s sad and feeling down
You’ve got to know when to give her space
And when to stay and hang around
You’ve got to know how she’s feelin’
Without having to say a word
You’ve got to make her feel
Like she’s the queen of your world
Verse 2
Now others will tell you
You’ve got to play the game
You’ve got to give her a line
“Hey Baby” just to get her name
You’ve got to keep her on the edge
Never knowing what to believe
And when you wear down her defenses
She’ll see that you’re the guy she needs
Though you promise her forever
You know it’s only for the night
You’re not the King of Hearts
You’re just a player in disguise
(Instrument solo)
Verse 3
Now I believe to be the King of Hearts
You’ve got to have a way my friend
You’ve got to play your part
You’ve got to know what to say, know what to do
You treat her like a lady ’cause she’s no fool
You’ve got to give her a reason why she should believe
You’re different from the guys that she has seen
So trust me when I tell you that love is more than just a game
To be the King of Hearts, you’ve got to do your part…each day
